Defense Department Releases New Data and Analytics Sharing Program

The online ecosystem will allow extensive data use while preserving data ownership.

The Department of Defense (DoD) announced its new program for agency and business data sharing, Open DAGIR. DAGIR stands for Data and Applications Government-owned Interoperable Repositories, which describes the program’s ability to share governmental data while preserving the government’s data ownership.

This new program, partially managed by the use of artificial intelligence, will function as a multi-vendor ecosystem similar to Amazon or eBay, allowing government contractors to have access to the governmental development tools and data necessary to achieve their projects.

“Open DAGIR brings the best industry has to offer to the Department,” said DoD Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Officer Radha Plumb. “It allows us to ensure enduring access to government-owned, contractor-operated technology stacks and infrastructure and retain data rights while also maximizing the ability of other companies to develop applications with government data.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Dr. Plumb to be discerning as she heads the Office of Digital and Artificial Intelligence.
  • For U.S. defense officials as they implement and maintain the AI-supported data ecosystem.
